We define a fair split as a cost distribution according to the use: The rent for shared space is equally distributed among all roommates and each roommate additionally pays for his room according to its size. If two or more roommates share a room, each pays a full share for the shared space and additional costs while the rent for the room is split among them.
Additional costs for power, landline or cable do not depend on the room size and thus are split evenly between all residents.
